Alive Inside of You

The minister at the local UU church I attended asked if I could play a song one Easter. Easter is a time of rebirth, but I knew that a family in the congregation had just lost their mom to breast cancer and she wasn't coming back. I wrote this with them in mind.
When its deep into wintertime and the sky is cold and the sun don’t shine
Do you wonder how you’ll ever wait ‘till spring
When summertime seems so far away
And flowers are a dream of yesterday
You’ve gotta keep spring alive inside of you
Keep it alive inside of you
Keep it alive inside of you
Then no matter where you go or what you do
You can open your heart and the spring comes shining through.
Did you ever have days that are going bad
When life is tough and you’re feeling sad
And you can’t think of much you want to do
When happiness seems so far away
And laughter is a dream of yesterday
You’ve gotta keep joy alive in side of you
Keep it alive inside of you
Keep it alive inside of you
Then no matter where you go or what you do
You can open your heart and the joy comes shining through.
Keep it alive inside of you
Keep it alive inside of you
Then no matter where you go or what you do
You can open your heart and the joy comes shining through.
We are people, all of us, and people can lose the ones they love
I think you’ll agree that’s the hardest thing
So after all your tears are cried, for the ones you’ve lost, the ones who’ve died
You’ve gotta keep them alive in side of you
Keep them alive inside of you
Keep them alive inside of you
Then no matter where you go or what you do
You can open your heart and their love comes shining through.
